With so many positive attributes, palm oil has benefited millions of people worldwide – small communities prosper, industries grow and countries expand every year. But why does nature’s miracle product is often misunderstood? If only more and more people, especially the NGOs, recognize the untiring efforts made by the Malaysian palm oil industry to improve our natural habitats, our environment and our own health.Working together, we can share a common vision that commits to sustainable practices today, for the generations of people to come tomorrow, on a healthier, livelier and greener earth – the planet we call home. The PalmOilToday blog is an initiative to convey the merits of palm oil factually.

Dear Tan Sri Yusof,
MPOC had done tireless work to promote palm oil industry . Yet we are still facing a lot of challenges especially in the western countries. For example, in Italy ” Palm Oil Free ” get supported from some members of parliament.Anti Palm Oil Petition initated by Il Fatto Alementere Publication in just six days has collected nearly fourty thousand signatures to suspend the use of palm oil.
I think MPOC need to have a new strategy to fight back the accusation and its can’t do it alone. May be Malaysia should work together with United Nation FAO under south south cooperation and FAO technical committee to seek fair and justice to palm oil industry.
Dear Dr Yusof Basiron,
Splendid work with regards to justifying the industry from continuous misconception and skewed judgments. It would be great if the community (local and abroad) could understand the reality and whats really happening on the ground.
I hereby want to inform our interest in buying crude palm oil. We want to know the amount of oil that you could send us monthly and its cost fixed for March 2015. In our country we work in gallons, can you provide us the conversion factor in order to obtain the correct value of metric ton ? Furthermore is a requirement for us to obtain an inexpensive product due that it will be used for biodiesel production purposes. Also we will need your help in order to transport this product to Puerto Rico in an efficient and cost effective way.
Besides, this project will be developed on Puerto Rico and it will required a 14,000 MT minimum monthly. That’s why a lower price of the vegetal palm oil and the shipment will be needed in order to achieve a feasible project. Is for this reason that we desired to request you to considering a better price offer. If an agreement is achieved, we will would like to meet you personally and visit your facilities located at Malaysia in order to ensure about the production process.
I wonder, if there is any representative who speaks Spanish so it can take our order. If not we prefered to keep communications by email for english.
KiNDLY FORWARD Dr. Basiron’s email address.

I read your comments in the recent interview with STAR. I am interested on your point with regards to water management in oil palm plantation. Where can I get more information on this? In particular the design and investment cost to have a proper system in place. Thank You.
Dear Dr Yusof Basiron,
Your publication is very interesting on Palm Oil and educational. The Palm Oil supply and ongoing production is necessary.
My question here however, is whether the quota for Palm Oil sales, Crude, has been filled for this year by Malaysia? If not, is there a central body that can be contacted to purchase a particular quota of Palm Oil over a contracted period?
Answer: The quota is issued by the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities Malaysia. Some of the nominated exporters should have CPO quota availble, and they should be contacted for enquiries.
Alot of useful information was provided in the “Oil palm Fortune” E-magazine. How ever it is dissapointing to notice that this magazine has not been published on a monthly basis any more.. the last publication was in Jan 2012. Hope you could do something about this.

Thanks and keep up the good work!!!
But soya beans have other problems to worry about. It is linked to osteoporosis. Check out Nature Medicine a high impact journal which published a well research paper on tocopherol and its negative effect on the bones.
EXCELLENT PUBLICATION SPOILED BY INACCURATE DATA
I picked up a copy of “Fact Sheets: Malaysian Palm Oil” at the recent World Halal Forum, and I agree with most of it’s content.
However, you are not helping your cause by publishing RIDICULOUS DATA FROM F.A.O.
Much of the data on page 47 is suspect, but the Nitrogen Input figures are TOTAL NONSENSE. Soybean is claimed to have a N.I. 300% more than other crops. Soybean is a legume, and does not require, or respond to, high nitrogen inputs. Sunflowers, and especially Rape, do respond to high N.I.s
I am a professional Agriculturist working localy, and I am basicaly on your side.
Oil industry information in this post is very workable and useful.
